Why Play is Valuable for a Child in Early Childhood Education

The Oxford dictionary describes play as: to fulfill, to occupy oneself, to have the ability to perform, to undertake or exercise activities for pleasure.

Not any particular child, but every child in any nation, environment or circumstance needs play. It’s absolutely necessary for children to play, to express themselves social, emotionally and physically. Play allows itself to be an individual creation or to be shared with others, it can be pulled in any direction letting it be turned into anything a child would like, preparing a healthy start to a lifetime of learning. Play is so special that its generosity even includes having fun; in fact that is one of the most important things about it. It has so many benefits that head off in every direction developing all the important ingredients for strong head start in a child life.

It is the adults job to explore the conditions which are best for maximizing the potential benefits of play for children to develop these social skills. One of the ways to do this is to provide and encourage games that are fun, exciting and positive for children. Many social skills are learnt through co-operative activities allowing the child to learn how to confidently form stronger friendships and relationships with siblings and parents.

Activities that involve interacting with others teach children not only about themselves but also about other childrens feeling needs and wants. Since they have learnt to value others’ emotions they develop skills to handle confrontations and conflicts in the future.

It’s also important for a child to develop physical strengths along with the social and emotional. Play has a huge impact in this development for children of varying ages, abilities and interests. Physical play strengthens a child’s fine motor skills as well as gross motor skills. Fine motor skills include such things as eye, mouth, wrist, finger and toe movements, whereas motor skills are the exercise of the larger muscle groups like the arms, legs and torso. This motor play provides critical opportunities for childrens overall strengthening of muscles, nerves and brain stimulation.

Play involves social, emotional, and physical learning. Included in all these types of learning comes cognitive development, an important result of play. Play gives children the opportunity to understand the world, interact with others in social ways and to express and control emotions. Play is a child’s opportunity to practice the skills they are building, and to try out new tasks. This gives them the framework and knowledge to solve more complex problems. All these things are needed for a child to get a healthy start in life. But the most important part of play is having fun. Play and fun are inseparable from each other. Without play, fun doesnt exist and without fun play cant exist.

The Homeschooling Mom Needs To Socialise Too!

When parents make the decision to home school their children, their primary concern is usually the lack of opportunity for their children to mix with other children on a regular basis. This is also one of the main criticisms used against homeschooling by it’s opponents. However, parents, too, can be affected by the lack of socialising opportunities. Many lifetime friendships between mothers have been formed at the school gates. Waiting for the children to emerge gives mothers a great opportunity to chat and discuss school, bringing up children and all life’s little and not so little problems. Becoming involved with PTA committees and functions, as well as volunteering to help in the classroom and with school trips, means that over the thirteen to fourteen years a child may be in school, you can get to know a lot of other parents and teachers. When you homeschool your children, you aren’t presented with these same social opportunities, but you needn’t miss out and become a social hermit. For the homeschooling mom, there are still a variety of social situations out there waiting for you. Many of them are family oriented and can be included in your lesson plans. Better yet, several are low cost or free.

Join a homeschool group in your area.

These groups are very popular and located nationwide in many countries. As well as providing a support network to homeschooling families, they sponsor all types of social gatherings and educational field trips. If there is not a group near you, why not organize one yourself. You’ll make great connections with other parents who homeschool.

Join an online group.

You can build friendships and be sociable’ in Cyberspace. An added bonus of online groups is that you will come in contact with moms from not only all over the United States but internationally as well – great for planning those geography and language lessons.

Teach a class to other homeschool moms

If you have a useful skill or interesting hobby, teach it to other homeschooling parents. It could be a purely recreational class or something educational, which parents can convert into lesson plans.

Teach in the community.

Take the class idea one step further and teach it at the community education level. Most school districts offer enrichment classes on a abundance of different subjects. Not only will this option afford you the chance to interact with your peers, it will also give you the opportunity to earn extra money.

Volunteer with your children.

There are many not for profit organizations which allow families to volunteer together.Animal shelters, nature reserves and soup kitchens are examples of family friendly’ organizations that are always on the lookout for volunteers. In addition to helping a good cause, you will be meeting and socialising with others.

There are plenty of social opportunities for the homeschooling mom. Whatever you choose to get involved in, make time for your own social life and you will be a happier, well adjusted home school mom with lots to offer your family.

What I Have Learnt From Personal Development Courses

Are you someone who loves to attend personal development courses? Well, you are in luck because I am just like you. I don’t mind people calling me a course junkie, because I know that I have personally benefitted from many of these. Today, I would like to share with you a bit of my life’s experiences in such workshops and seminars.

The first thing that I have learnt from personal development courses is that they are really life changing. You get to see things from different perspectives. The reality is that in order to succeed in life, you need to have a mentor to mentor you. Without one, you will probably end up wasting a number of years of your life just learning how to succeed. The most successful people of today were once mentored by others. People like T. Harv Eker, Bob Proctor, and Anthony Robbins. The list goes on and on, but these people have looked up to someone else at one point in time in their lives.

Personal development courses give all of us hope. Here is another reality. Most of these people who are now successful started out as nobodies. I recently attended a workshop and the speaker said that when he was young, he was diagnosed by the doctors as a retard. Today, he has mentored other success stories and is very successful himself. You do not need to be extremely talented if you want to succeed in life. All you need is the courage to take the leap of faith, the willingness to learn the right techniques from others, and the perseverance to keep going even when you fail.

You may be surprised as to why I never mentioned the immediate benefit of such seminars, which is the fact that you have the opportunity to improve your skills. That is no doubt a big benefit, but I feel that the other two benefits that I pointed out earlier carry more weight. You can improve yourself as much as you want but the risk is that you may walk around blindly trying to figure out which way to go, or you may not believe in yourself. Having a mentor give you a shortcut as he or she can point you in the right direction and empower you.

I hope you have benefitted from my sharing about my experiences at personal development courses. I hope you will appreciate them as much as I do too.

Higher Education A Womans World

At first glance, higher education today might seem like a woman’s world.

Government officials have warned that men will face a struggle for good jobs in future as teenage boys shun university.

In 2006, 22,500 more young women than men went on to higher education. Ministers are increasingly concerned at the widening gender gap in higher education. Employers increasingly look to hire staff with degrees.

Consequently, men might find themselves marginalised in the jobs market.

Girls have been outperforming boys at GCSE, A-level and in university for years. But now girls are doing better at work too, earning more than boys in the first eight years of their careers.

In 2005, 80% of girls passed national curriculum tests in English, compared with 67% of boys.

At A level, girls passed 23.9% of exams at grade A, compared with 21.5% of boys. According to Higher Education Funding Council for England Figures last year showed 47% of 17-30 year-old women had gone into higher education in 2004, compared to 37% of young men.

Hefce chief executive Professor David Eastwood said: We need to understand better why this is happening and start taking some action sooner rather than later.

Higher Education Minister Bill Rammell said The government has introduced a number of strategies to address the gap in gender achievement and to raise the performance of all pupil.

The Raising Boys’ Achievement Project which looked at exciting and innovative ways of raising achievement across a range of primary, secondary, and special schools to identify and evaluate strategies which are particularly helping motivating boys.

Schools will be better able to address underachievement in the performance of boys and girls if they know when and where they emerge. A careful analysis of data, mapping the development of male and female pupils, particularly the value-added data, including a breakdown of data by key pupil sub-groups, will enable schools to plan when and how to intervene. Schools should monitor pupils progress regularly by gender.

Why Some Students With Low Grades Make it To Prime Universities

It’s puzzling how some students make it to prime universities, while your application on the other hand, gets rejected. You wonder even more, especially when you know (modesty aside) that academically speaking, you are better than that person. That can only be attributed to one explanation: Universities are not all after the intellectually-gifted applicants.

Figures don’t impress that much. You got a perfect score on your SAT and ACT. You also graduated with honors. Still, those accomplishments are not enough for your application to be approved by panelists. There are still other components that matter aside from the figures that prove you are indeed smart. Admission essays, recommendation letters and extracurricular involvement also count. Universities, nowadays, do not only want students that can answer complex mathematical problems manually. They want those who recognize their passions and are working hard to pursue them. They want those that care not only about themselves, but also the community they are in.

Panelists don’t rank applicants. With the thousand applications they have to review, admission officials no longer have the time to group students according to GPAs and SAT scores. And even if they have ample time, still, they would not do so. They look into your grades for a minute or so, sometimes even only for a few seconds, to see whether you can keep up with the classes, and that you would not fail. And that’s it. After officials have seen your grades, then again you are on the same playing field as the rest of other applicants. In short, the admission process is not about the university arranging applicants according to grades, picking the top ten percent and then discarding those at the bottom of the list.

Character appeals more. Universities desire to admit students that would make their community more diverse. They want aspiring leaders, innovators, national athletes and motivational speakers. Do not just invest on your grades. Join organizations whose purpose you support. And do not move from one to another every year. This is not about the quantity. Show rather the developments you have made from being a member of the group, to being voted as among the officials. Also, join outreach activities during summer so you can beef up your application.

Do not feel jealous, If that is your friend who got accepted, then you should be happy more than anything else. Instead of fostering grudge, it is best that you work on your other applications, and work on compensating for what you may be lacking. This is for your benefit especially if you are waitlisted and are looking forward to be given another chance by a university of your choice.

Credit Cards for Students Important Tips

Students should keep in mind that credit cards for students are not different from general credit cards. Financial agencies which issue credit cards for students do not hold, for any reason, extra sympathy towards the student community. This is why students must be more careful and responsible when they secure and use credit cards.

Students should have their individual monthly estimate of income and expenditure. It is wise for them to accept self-imposed restrictions of some kind. Magnitude of debt must not be more than ten percent of the final income of the students. They should believe that they secure loans using the credit cards for students.

Everyone knows that expense is restless. A part or major part of the expenditure remains within the knowledge of the individual student. On the other hand, students experience that they are bound to spend for reasons about which they are not already ready. Hence, they should learn to balance their income and expenditure intelligently.

As credit card is to borrow some money, reimbursement is obvious necessity. Students as borrower should be responsible regarding payment in due time. They should bear in mind that payment agreements on using credit cards for students must be honored.

Violation of payment agreement will go against the financial health of the students. Intelligent students study the credit limit mentioned in the statement. They try to remain just below the credit limit provided by the financial institutions who have issued the credit cards for students. This kind of students creates their own credit limit which is less than the offered one.

Violation of payment agreement means more financial pressure, because more amounts in the form of fines, fees and penalties are to be paid. Credit cards for students are also cancelled because of failure in honoring the agreement. One important thing in this respect is the date of payment or due date of payment. Student borrower can pay the credit amount after the due date of payment. This becomes late payment which demands penalties, extra charges etc.

Students having credit cards, sometimes, change their address. They should be ready to inform the credit cards issuing authority about the change. They should let the authority note their new address of contact, unless which there are chances for late payment.

Microsoft Office Student 2010 – Now on Sale – Get This Week’s Best Price Here

Microsoft Office Student 2010 is now on sale. You can get the cheapest price if you know how to find it. I will show you how to find today’s cheapest price.

Why is Microsoft Office so Cheap Now?

The answer is simple. Microsoft makes a new “Office” program around every 3 years (remember Office 2000, 2003, 2007 and now 2010?) I would expect the next one to come out around 2013. microsoft office 2010 key will be the “newest” Office for another three years but in 2011 people just won’t pay top price anymore for “last year’s model” so the stores must lower their prices.

Why buy a Newer Version?

When microsoft office professional 2010 plus first came out, many people ran to buy the newest product. People who didn’t run to get the new one are perfectly happy with the older versions so sales started going down. You can certainly keep using the older versions for awhile longer.

People buy the new one because:

They actually want some feature of the newer one While mostly compatible, you may own some program that doesn’t work with an older version They bought a new computer/laptop and want to install Office

What Applications Come With buy microsoft office 2010?

Office 2010 comes with:

Microsoft Word 2010 Microsoft Excel 2010 Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 Microsoft OneNote 2010

Most of them are “Old”, familiar programs complete with new and improved tools and features to help you create, communicate, and stay productive.

Buy Only a Licensed Copy!

I am telling you this as a warning – People try to get away with using their friend’s copy, downloading trials and buying “knockoffs”. In the end you will be sorry. Microsoft now knows how to control pirate copies and how many copies are made with the same license. In the end you will be sorry.

Now that the price has gone down so much, think of it as just an investment for at least the next 3 years.

Where Do I Get a Good Price Today?

You can spend hours surfing the web and you’ll probably end up with nothing (Google returns over one billion sites when you put in “cheap microsoft office 2010”!)
